Black Adam #1 (Spoilers a plenty)
Peter J. Tomasi: Story and words

Let's start with the cover. It depicts a psychotic looking Adam holding the skeleton of his dead wife Isis. Adam's revenge fueled purge through the DC U has made him the most hated powered being around. However, when the story begins Adam is without his powers, and is pushing one of his devoted disciples into beating him to an unrecognizable mess. Disturbing: in that you begin to understand how far Adam is willing to go in order to fulfill his plans. Having the snot beat out of you so that no one will recognize your now infamous face is off the crazy chart. The first stop for Adam and followers is the tomb of Isis. When the group is ambushed our (anti)hero has no qualms shielding himself from attack with the bodies of his followers while he raids the tomb and escapes with the skeleton of Isis. He vows that their devotion and sacrifice will be remembered. We are also shown that a group of the JSA is looking for Adam. Green Lantern gets information that he believes may yield Adam's location. The group of Atom Smasher, Mr. Terrific, Dr Mid-Nite and Wild Cat arrive, they find a body believed to be Adam, hung from a tree in the town square. The locals have been using the body as a pinata. Just whacking the crap out of it and waiting for the candy to fall out. A quick DNA (Mr Terrific) scan concludes that this is not Adam. Just some poor bastard that the village mistook to be Adam. Freaking Disturbing: mob mentality. The mob of villagers, in their blood lust for revenge displayed the same disregard for life as Adam. And in that instance became the very monster they hate and condemned. The story then joins Adam and one follower as they travel through the Himalayas. Oh my God, that did not happen: Seemingly lost in harsh winter conditions, mentally Adam is noting the sacrifice and devotion of Tamir. As he vows (again) never to forget Tamir, we see Adam eating a piece of raw meat. No wait, is that a leg? Maybe an arm. The panels shift to a wide view showing more of Adam and his surroundings. We see the bloody body of Tamir laying in the snow. Both legs missing. Can't help but to wonder if Tamir gave of himself willingly so that Adam could live or if Adam acting as Adam always does, in self interest, killed him? Was Tamir dead before the "feast" began or did he die a slow death in order to keep Adam company as he dined? That would seem to fit the ego.
